Andrey Sharenda, the husband of political prisoner Polina Sharenda-Panasyuk, addressed the European public with a call to strengthen sanctions and confiscate property from “Lukashenka’s wallets”:
“I came here today.
Thanks to everyone who is holding Polina’s portrait.
“Free Polina” is our path with Polina, which we have been following for 2.5 years.
Polina has been in prison for 2.5 years, but Polina continues to fight.
Even there, behind bars, she does everything to make Belarus free as soon as possible.
She continues to fight for all of us.
We, the ones that are here, abroad, can also do a lot.
I now want to appeal on behalf of the relatives of political prisoners, because what is being done in Belarus today to political prisoners is a concentration camp!
This concentration camp is in the center of Europe, and you need to know that.
We see that Europe, a free world, calmly observes what is happening in Belarus.
They calmly watch how people are getting tortured and killed in Belarus, in the center of Europe.
Therefore, I would like to use this moment to call on all European politicians and organizations not to put up with what is happening.
There are methods to push the regime even harder.
Sanctions are introduced but, unfortunately, they do not work as they are supposed to.
Lukashenka, his family, and the dictator’s servants – the so-called “Lukashenka wallets” – have property in Europe.
There is a lot of it.
Even here, in Lithuania, there is property that belongs to those people who are responsible for repressions.
Thus, I call on ordinary Lithuanians, the Lithuanian government to start the procedure of confiscation and freezing of these assets.
Only this, only intense pressure can do what we all long for – a free Belarus!
And then Polina and thousands of other political prisoners will be free.
Thank you, friends
Long live Belarus!”
